How to Prepare for Your Dog’s First Obedience Class
How to Prepare for Your Dog’s First Obedience Class
Obedience training is necessary for developing a well-mannered canine in society. Do you want to take your puppy everywhere with you? This is an excellent way to build a foundation of skills, allowing your pup to be challenged mentally and physically. Being proactive about training reduces behavior issues later on. Here’s what to do after you’ve enrolled your dog into a training program.
Preparing for Class
Before the first class, take your dog to your veterinarian to make sure they’re healthy enough to attend a program and properly vaccinated. You will be asked to submit a copy of their records regarding their health and vaccines.
Please bring these essential supplies to your class:
A dog collar with required information to identify your pet.
A treat back with dime size dog treats
A favorite toy
A non-retractable leash
A harness if you use one.
What does My Dog Learn during Training?
The choice of a training program depends on the age of your dog and behaviors being addressed.
All Ears Petcare Puppy Class has blended Puppy Kindergarten and Basic Obedience Class into one. This is great for puppies ages 12-week-old to 2 years old. Training will be focused on introducing basic obedience and socialization, as well as how to interact with other dogs and people. Graduation includes an introduction to ability course equipment.
Advanced Obedience Class for pups who gone through Puppy Class. Prerequisite to pass Basic Obedience skill test. These classes will increase your dog’s skill base including tricks and/or beginning agility obstacles training. Building confidence in owner and dog with more challenging situations.
Private Training is customized to your dog pack (puppies and humans included, or multi-dog homes) with mix of basic obedience and reactive aggression specific training. We will meet at your home, backyard or nearby park. This is your time to ask all the questions. We can work on reactive aggression, nutrition, resocialization, and more.
Listed below are the skills All Ears Trainer will work on during basic obedience class:
Recognizing their name and coming back to you.
Sitting.
Staying down near you.
Staying in the same position until the next command is given.
Coming over to you when called.
Leaving any unwanted things when you ask.
Greeting others, humans and dogs, politely.
Walking well when on leash.
In addition to obedience training, your dog will learn good manners such as walking nicely without pulling on the leash, waiting near doorways or exits patiently, refusing temptations, and more.
Which Class is Best for My Dog?
Enrolling in puppy group class or opting for private lessons depends on their behaviors. You must pay attention to your dog’s body language to understand them. If your dog is timid, you should give them more time and space form the other dogs in the class before they can focus on you.
